History of the Wild Balls

Friends of Traditional Dance celebrates a long, rich history through the two elegant balls that the organization started in Fort Collins in the 1980s. The Wild Goose Masquerade Ball (fall) and the Wild Asparagus Ball (spring) herald in these seasons to the music of the Mostly Strauss Orchestra (aka the Denver Pops).

The original spirit and style of these events has held true through all the years. Dancers can expect a ballroom graced with beautiful, elegant dancers enjoying waltzes, swing, polkas and an occasional foxtrot. The Denver Pops Orchestra brings over fifty musicians to fill the room with Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Mancini and Duke Ellington.

After a hiatus of 4 years due to COVID and the passing of our beloved organizer, Shelley Kerr, the Wild Goose Masquerade Ball returned to the Avalon Ballroom on October 28, 2023. May 4, 2024 we return the Ball to Fort Collins after 14 years!
